ONeill Wetsuits
Jack O’Neill was a young man with a passion for surfing who ended up with one of the best known suits that a lot of surfers purchase and wear to this day, the O’Neill wetsuits. It was the early 50’s many years ago when Jack was working for an architectural aluminum company in which he got fired from all because his sinuses were acting up and dripped on some drawings he was showing during a presentation. The embarrassment he must have felt along with the hurt of getting fired for such a thing can bring anyone down. Funny how things happen, they say when one door closes another door opens and that’s just what happened for Jack.
Jack had plenty of free time to do some other things especially surfing. Unfortunately he was under a lot of pressure as anyone would be after losing their job. So what does he do? He starts to vision… Vision a way to surf in cooler waters. With that vision he starts to try out different materials to make a wetsuit. He used pieces of closed cell foam to make vests that he glued together and before you know it, he starts his own surf company in a garage down the way from his favorite bodysurfing break in San Francisco in 1952. He sold his first wetsuit there. Then later he moved to the coast of Santa Cruz where he opened up his company there which is currently his headquarters. He was on his way to having his last name become one of the world’s most well known surfer brands throughout the surfing community. What a way to dream up your passion, take action and succeed at all costs.
